Welcome New and Returning Families

Welcome to Scrollworks! We’re excited to include so many new families for our Spring 2026 semester, our first at Brewster Road Community Church.

Scrollworks is a community music program offering group-based instruction, ensembles, and creative music-making for students of all ages. No prior experience is required for beginners, and instruments will be provided when available.

We are proud to be an approved tutor for Alabama CHOOSE, making Scrollworks accessible to more families.

We’ve left much of the information on this page available so families can get a clear sense of what Scrollworks offers, including our approach to instruction, ensemble experiences, and overall program structure. As we continue rebuilding and growing in our new location, we are thoughtfully reviewing and refining many aspects of the program to better serve our students and families. Because of this, details may change from semester to semester, and the information here should be viewed as a general overview rather than a final description of future offerings. Updated information will be shared as plans for upcoming semesters are finalized.

Spring 2026 At-a-Glance

Location:

Brewster Road Community Church

Class Day & Time:

All classes meet on Saturdays between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

The semester consists of 12 lesson days with a recital / concert in the afternoon of the 12th lesson day.

Most classes meet one hour per week.

Intermediate and advanced string and wind students attend two hours weekly (group lesson + ensemble).

Tuition & Fees (Spring 2026)

Tuition includes an instrument (if available) and a method book.

Beginner Strings & Winds: $250

Guitar: $200

Piano: $300

Winds & Strings (Intermediate & Early Advanced) - Includes group lesson + ensemble: $300

Music Theory: $25

Recorder Ensemble: $25

Students may register for more than one instrument or class, as scheduling allows.

Registration Notes:
You will receive a confirmation email upon submission.
I will check the placement you choose with the appropriate teacher. If they suggest changes, I will email you to confirm.
If we find we can't provide what you register for we will refund your payment for that activity.
I will email each family a personalized schedule before January 17.

Here are the levels available (numbered as on the registration form):

2. Wind & String Beginner Level (age 8+, as of 1/1/26)   
Beginners have had 1 semester or less of instruction on their instrument

Registration Fee: $250

Includes a weekly group class, a method book and loan of an instrument (if available)

3. Winds & Strings Intermediate Level
Intermediate students have had at least 2 semesters of instruction on their instrument.

Registration Fee: $300

Includes a weekly group lesson. method book and ensemble or orchestra rehearsal each week and loan of an instrument (if available).

4. Early Advanced Strings and Winds
Early advanced students have had at least 4 semesters of instruction on their instrument.

Registration Fee: $300

Includes a weekly group lesson. method book and ensemble or orchestra rehearsal each week and loan of an instrument (if available).

5. Orchestra Only for Early Advanced Strings and Winds Referred By An Outside Teacher
Early advanced students wanting to participate in orchestra only must be referred by their private instructor and have had at least 4 semesters of instruction on their instrument.

Registration Fee: $300

Includes weekly orchestra rehearsal and loan of an instrument (if available)

6. Piano
Beginning and Intermediate Level

Registration Fee: $300

Includes a weekly group class and method book.

7. Guitar
All levels

Registration Fee: $200

Includes a weekly group class and method book.

8. Music Theory
Available to students who have studied any instrument for at least one year and have not taken theory before.

Registration Fee: $25

Includes a weekly group class and theory work book.

9. Recorder Ensemble
The recorder ensemble is only available to students invited by Dane Lawley. Professional-quality recorders (in several voices) are loaned at his discretion.

Registration Fee: $25

Includes a weekly rehearsal, loan of a recorder and sheet music as well as occasional performances at community events.

Instrument Availability:

Instruments will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis according to the order of registration. Students interested in cello should attend the free drop-in lessons on Saturday, January 3 to be sized. We will assign cellos while they last to those students who have completed registration and been sized. (Instruments won't be distributed until the first teaching day.)

Violin - We have all sizes available

*Cello - We do not have any 4/4 cellos to loan, so older students will not be able to study cello this semester. 

Flute - Available

Clarinet - Available

Trumpet - Available
