Donations to the Metropolitan Youth Orchestras of Central Alabama are tax deductible.
We will provide you with a receipt letter for tax purposes.
Monetary donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Lack of access to an instrument is one of the primary barriers to children learning to play.
At Scrollworks, we loan an instrument to any student in exchange for a small deposit, which is then refunded upon return of the instrument. Students and parents are instructed in proper care of their instrument and are responsible for replacing strings, rosin, reeds, etc.
We gratefully accept donations of any instrument you might find in an orchestra: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. There's a good chance it will go directly into a child's hands upon arrival!
At the moment, we have a waiting list for saxophone and guitar.
If you have an instrument that may not be in great shape or perhaps you don't even know if it plays, we have professionals who volunteer their services to repair our instruments.
For donors in the Birmingham area, instruments may be dropped off when the building is open on teaching days. These are listed on the calendar on the home page. If that is not convenient, please email to arrange a more suitable drop-off time.
For donors outside of Birmingham, you may ship instruments to:
c/o Jeane Goforth
220 72nd St S
Birmingham, AL 35206
We will provide a receipt for tax purposes.

Donate Music Books
We gladly accept donations of new and gently used sheet music and music books for all instruments and other teaching materials.
When we receive your donation, we let our teachers pull out anything they can use in their classes and lessons or that a specific student can benefit from. We also have a shelf of music for students to take at will.
The rest we sell on eBay to raise funds to purchase the standard method books we need or supplies such as reeds, rosin, and strings.
Some things to note:
Keep boxes under 30 lbs. Several people involved in the process are elderly and cannot lift heavier items.
Pack boxes full so they are not damaged in shipping.
