We offer group instruction and ensembles for orchestral instruments, guitar, piano and voice to children ages 6 to 18, including students with disabilities.

New for Fall 2019: Guitar and Art classes!

Please check our calendar on the bottom of the home page to make sure your student will not miss more than two class days, is available on either of the jury days and can participate in Recital Camp and the final concert(s).

All activities take place at historic St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1500 6th Ave N, Birmingham, 35203.

How to navigate this page and the registration form:
Based on your child's age and skill on their chosen instrument, decide which class/ensemble would be a good fit from the age/skill breakdown immediately below. Decide whether Monday or Saturday fits your schedule best and make sure the class/ensemble is available on that day under Offerings further down.

In addition to indicating these choices on the form, be sure to indicate your child's birth date, what instrument they will study, whether you already have that instrument and whether your child might be eligible for supplemental VSA instruction (see below).

Put any concerns or special considerations in the comment box. Also watch for any email with 'Scrollworks: Question' after submission, where we might ask for clarification on specifics.

Attendance, Tardiness & Practicing Requirements:

Students may not miss more than two days of class, lessons or rehearsals per semester. Please check the calendar on the home page. If you know your child will miss more than two days, please do not register. Make-up classes or lessons are not available.

Attendance at recital camp and the final semester concert are required. Check the calendar on the Home tab.

Students should always arrive a few minutes early for their classes, lessons and rehearsals. Teachers are not required to teach a student who is more than 10 minutes late. Repeated tardiness will impact placement in the subsequent semester.

Practicing at home is critical to progress on any instrument. Teachers will provide guidance for how often and how long students at each age and skill level should practice. A log will be provided and will be reviewed each week during class or lessons. If your family cannot commit to a regular practice regime, please do not register.

FREE Lunch: At noon on most Saturdays, a simple nutritious lunch is provided for students, staff and parents for free. Donations of food, paper goods and/or money are gratefully accepted. Volunteers to help prepare and serve the food are always welcome. Please see Angela Blankenship at the check-in desk.

New Student Orientation is Saturday, August 17:
  • 9 am - String Instrument Sizing (only for students needing a string instrument!)
  • 9:30 am - Music Theory evaluation test for new students - Required (This is to determine baseline knowledge. No previous knowledge is expected.)
  • 10 am - General Info for New Families - Required (<30 min)

Please provide additional information and/or scheduling requirements in the comment section of the registration form.

Be sure to hit the submit button at the bottom of the form.

Online payment of the $80 semester fee is required at time of registration. (This is the fee for one class: thus the minimum for each child.) Later you will receive an invoice from our bookkeeper for any instrument deposit and/or additional classes.

Forms are processed in the order received.
