Auditions Fall 2017

We're Adding an Orchestra!
Metropolitan Youth Orchestras and Scrollworks have received additional funding from Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute to participate in the PlayUSA Network.

As part of that initiative and also because of our students' increasing skill level and desire for more challenging repertoire, we are adding a new youth orchestra level to the program.

Our teachers have developed structured requirements for each level of ensemble. Students who wish to participate will be asked to demonstrate their readiness by audition.

What orchestra should I audition for?
Strings - First, match where you are in the All for Strings book (or equivalent). Then check to see if you can prepare the required scales and piece(s) to play for the audition.

Winds - First, make sure you know how to play the required scales. Then check to see if you can prepare the etude or exercise to play for the audition.

If you audition for an orchestra and are not able to demonstrate the required skills, you will be placed in the ensemble that best matches your skills.

Printable versions of requirements and audition pieces are available at the bottom of this page.

Auditions will be held as follows:
Saturday, August 5 from 9 am to 1 pm
Monday, August 7 from 5 pm to 8 pm
Saturday, August 12 from 12 pm to 3 pm

Monday, August 14 from 5 pm to 8 pm
